Breast enhancement surgery procedures have gained tremendous
popularity and recognition in women over the last couple of decades. If you
also feel you are lacking a curvy body, and are planning to undergo breast
augmentation surgery, make sure you have a complete knowledge of how to prepare
yourself for the surgery. A well prepared patient is likely to make quickest,
easiest and safest recovery.
Here are some tips to
ready yourself for a boob-job:
Do your research:
Like any other
procedure, the most important thing that any patient can do before breast
enhancement surgery is to educate herself. Do your research on internet or any
other forum available. Schedule a consultation with some experienced and
board-certified plastic surgeon who has a vast experience of performing breast
augmentation surgeries. You may also talk to the patients who have undergone breast enhancement surgery in the past
to know the real time scenario.
Stop your aspirin intake at a week prior to
surgery:
As with any surgery, you
should stop your aspirin intake seven days prior to breast augmentation surgery.
Oral contraceptives should be stopped 4 to 5 weeks prior to surgery; otherwise
you will be at a higher risk to suffer from blood clot in the legs. There are
numerous other medications (such as Bufferin, ibuprofen, naprosyn, Alleve,
Anacin, etc.) and herbal supplements as well that you should not take prior to
surgery. Some surgeons also provide a list of medications to the patients that
they have to refrain from taking a week prior to surgery.
Don’t eat or drink anything after midnight on
the day of surgery:
This is the most
common pre-procedure instruction that all the surgery patients are advised to
follow strictly, regardless of which surgery they are undergoing. So if you are
undergoing breast enhancement surgery, follow the same rule and be NPO after
midnight on the night before your procedure, i.e. do not eat or drink anything
after 12 O’clock in the night.
Fill all your prescriptions in advance:
Doctors generally give
their patients some prescriptions for pain medication, antibiotics and muscle
relaxants in their last consultation before surgery. Go ahead and have your
prescriptions filled in advance. You may need to bring your pain medications to
the surgery center on the day of procedure. Discuss with your physician and
take the required medicines with you on the day of surgery.
Some additional
instructions include:
·
Arrange someone to
drive you home after the surgery and stay with you at least for the first 24
hours, as you will be drowsy and sore.
·
Purchase a post-op bra
if your healthcare provider is not giving you one.
·
Take a shower the
night before procedure and on the second day after your surgery, but avoiding
taking shower immediately after the surgery.
·
Wear comfortable loose
fitting clothes.
·
Leave all your
valuables at home.
·
Do not wear your
jewelry, like earrings, rings or bracelets on the day of surgery, since you
will have to remove them before going into the surgery room.
Follow these
pre-procedure instructions and enjoy a successful breast enhancement surgery,
followed by a smooth, quick recovery.
